First Visit

When bringing your pet in for a check-up remember it may be a little uneasy about new people and animals. This is one of the reasons we ask that you restrain your pet before coming into the clinic.

We suggest animals be placed on a leash, or in a pet carrier before entering the waiting room. Your pet and others in the waiting area will appreciate the extra care.
If you think your pet has a contagious disease you should call us first with details - we may request your pet wait outside until called for.

Hours / Appointments

Mon, Tues, Wed, and Fri
9:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.     &    4:00 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.

Thursday
9:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Saturday
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.

Closed on Sunday

To allow ample time for all patients and scheduled surgical procedures we operate primarily by appointment; but walk-ins are welcome.

Like humans, pets do not synchronize their illnesses with our appointment book and surgical procedures sometimes take longer than planned, so an occasional appointment delay is inevitable. Please realize that we make a sincere attempt to see each client on time and a phone call is appreciated by all if an appointment needs to be rescheduled.

Medications

The wrong medications at the wrong time can be very detrimental to your pet's health. Always follow the directions on your pet's medication precisely...do not save them for future use. Never give your pet human pain killers or other human medication - they can be deadly. Use only medicine that has been prescribed by a veterinarian and KEEP ALL MEDICATIONS OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS.

Emergency Service

Emergency service is available by calling (718) 549-8131. Our answering service will put you in touch with an emergency clinic.

Boarding / Visits

Reservations are required for boarding, which we provide as a service for our clients. For the safety of all pets in our charge we require that all vaccinations be up-to-date. Animals requiring veterinary attention (such as defleaing, deworming, etc.) will be taken care of at the owner's expense

Visits are permitted at our discretion only - a constant flow of people tends to excite all pets in the kennel. We prefer that you do not visit while your pet is boarding with us.

All pets are discharged during normal business hours Monday through Saturday.

Payments / Fees

Payment may be made by cash, Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card. Personal checks will be accepted only after credit has been established. Accounts must be paid in full at the time of treatment or release from the hospital. To keep the cost of an office visit down we do not allow charging - it takes hours of bookkeeping to process charges and this increases the cost of a visit. If a bill cannot be paid in full, previous arrangements must be made. There will be a $5.00 charge for the initial billing and a $5.00 charge for each additional bill sent.

Fees depend upon just what is done. There are some fees that are standard and some that vary with the length and difficulty of the procedure involved. We will be happy to give you an estimate of costs and detailed itemization of the fees involved.

Pet Food and Supplies

For your convenience and your pet's health and happiness our clinic carries a selection of the following professional pet food and supplies:

  • Food and nutritional supplements
  • Flea control products (for pet and home)
  • Highest quality, general pet supplies
  • Grooming aids

We will be glad to consult with you regarding the best dietary requirements for your pet's particular needs.

General Health

Having your pet vaccinated against contagious disease may be one of the most important things you ever do for your pet. We can advise you what is best for your individual pet, but here are some guidelines:

Puppies should begin vaccinations at 6-8 weeks of age, while kittens begin at 8-10 weeks. Annual boosters are needed to maintain health protection.

Dogs should be Vaccinated against Distemper, Parvo, Lymes Disease and Rabies. Cats should be immunized for Feline Distemper, respiratory viruses, Feline Leukemia, FIP and Rabies. Dogs should also be on a heartworm preventative and be checked yearly.

Animal medicine has made great strides in recent years and pets are now enjoying much longer and more trouble-free lives with the aid of qualified and conscientious healthy care professionals. We look forward to helping you enjoy the happiness that a health pet can provide.

We invite you to allow Bender Animal Hospital to become your partner in providing the finest in health care for your pet.
